In this project I was working with the PromPrylad plant in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, which was the important industrial object in the USSR. When the plant’s technology became obsolete recently the question of job opportunities got actualized. So many local workers got stressed due to reducing the plant. In recent years in Ukraine we have a tendency of renovating the industrial spaces and transforming them into the cultural centers. So partly the territory of the plant was bought by some cultural organizations which invited me to make an initial art project on PromPrylad. My aim was to connect the past and present and show the logical shift from material production (heavy industry) to the production of ideas (cultural, educational, and art activity).
Using
PromPrylad’s old photo archives, images of ancient and modern mythology, and theory of developmental psychology my partner and I have created the installation of 8 collages. Each piece reflects the meaning of a certain stage of human life, comparing it with the stages of a star's life and providing an understanding of the cycling of life.
